What Is 5-Axis CNC Machining?
A standard 3-axis mill moves the cutter left and right, forward and back, and up and down. The part stays put, so the tool only reaches what faces up. To cut another side, someone has to unclamp the part, turn it over, and locate it again.
A 5-axis machine adds two rotating axes, called A and B (or A and C). The cutter and the part can tilt toward each other, which lets the tool reach five sides of a block and most curved or angled surfaces without anyone touching the part in between.
We run two modes. In simultaneous 5-axis, all five axes move together while the tool follows a surface, which suits turbine blades, impellers, and sculpted shapes. In 3+2 mode, the part tilts to a fixed angle and the machine cuts with three axes, which works well for housings and blocks with angled holes and faces. We choose the mode that gives you the tolerance you need at the lowest cost.

Why Choose Our 5 Axis Precision Machining Services
Buyers usually come to us after a project has gone wrong somewhere else: a batch rejected at incoming inspection, a lead time that slipped twice, or a quote that made no sense for a small run. Here is what we put in place to prevent that:
How Accurate Is High Precision 5 Axis Machining?
Standard tolerance: ±0.01–0.025 mm
Critical features: ±0.005 mm or tighter, depending on part size and material
Surface roughness: Ra 0.4–1.6 μm, finer on request
Accuracy on a multi-feature part depends on where every feature is measured from. In a single setup, the machine cuts all features from the same datum, the reference surface it locates from. The distance from a hole to a face is then set by the machine's own positioning, which is very repeatable. Once a part is moved, the machine has to find that reference again, and the new position carries its own small error.
Tool angle matters too. Tilting the cutter changes how it meets the surface, which changes both finish and dimensions. That's why our programmers simulate tool angle, reach, and clearance before the first cut. Tolerance choice also drives price - the tighter the number, the more it can add to cost, so it's worth deciding which features truly need it. We're happy to go through your drawing with you before you commit.

Problems That 5-Axis Machining Solves
Take a hydraulic manifold with ports on four sides. On a 3-axis machine it might need three or four setups, each with its own fixture. On a 5-axis machine it often needs one or two. Less handling means less error, less waiting, and a shorter road from order to delivery.

Is 5-Axis Machining More Expensive?
The hourly machine rate is higher than on a 3-axis mill. On complex parts, the total price often comes out lower, because you're paying for fewer fixtures, less rework, and less hand polishing, and the job moves through the shop faster. Prototypes and short runs often see the biggest difference, since custom fixtures would otherwise take a large share of the budget.
Simple, flat parts are a different story. A plain plate is usually cheaper on a 3-axis machine, and we'll quote it that way. Before production, we also do a DFM (design for manufacturability) review. A slightly larger corner radius or a different datum face can take real cost out of a part, and it's much cheaper to find that before the first order than after.
5-Axis Machining for Aerospace, Medical, Robotics, Automotive & Energy
Aerospace
Thin walls, deep pockets, and light alloys that must hold tolerance after cutting - turbine blades, impellers, structural brackets, fuel-system components. Titanium and Inconel wear tools quickly; short, rigid cutters and steady cutting conditions help.
Medical Devices
Implants and instruments have small features and curved surfaces with strict finish requirements. Machining in one setup reduces handling marks and keeps the inspection record simple.
Robotics
Joints, arms, and gearbox housings combine bores, angled faces, and mounting surfaces that must line up with one another.
Automotive & Energy
Precision housings, pump parts, and valve bodies suit 5-axis machining well, especially for prototypes and pilot runs. Automotive customers can request PPAP documents.
Quality Control and Traceability
Inspection on our 5 axis precision machining services starts at the machine, with probing during the job, and finishes in the measuring room. Depending on what your quality team needs, we can provide:
Lead Time and Order Quantity
Prototypes start at one piece and can ship in 1–3 days. Production lead time depends on part complexity and quantity, and it stays steady once the process is proven. We review your files before we quote, so the delivery date you get is one we can keep.
How the Process Works
FAQ
Q: Can you sign an NDA before I send drawings?
A: Yes, we can work under an NDA. Send us yours, or ask for ours, before you share files.
Q: Which file formats do you accept?
A: A STEP file is best for the 3D model, along with a PDF drawing that shows tolerances, material, and surface finish. Other common CAD formats are usually fine, so ask if yours is different.
Q: Do you offer surface finishing?
A: We can arrange finishes such as anodizing, plating, and passivation, along with polishing and heat treatment. Tell us the requirement in your RFQ so we can price and schedule it together with machining.
Q: How do you ship parts, and do you export?
A: We pack parts to protect finished surfaces and ship by air or sea freight.
Q: What is the smallest order you take?
A: One piece. That covers prototypes and test samples, and we can move to small and medium batches once the design is final.
