Low Volume Plastic Casting

Low Volume Plastic Casting
Details:
Low Volume Plastic Casting refers to a manufacturing method that uses silicone molds or low-cost molds to cast liquid plastic or resin materials into small batches (usually 10-200 pieces) of plastic components.
It is mainly used for:
Product Prototype and Design Verification
Appearance and assembly testing
Small batch trial production or market trial sales
Multi variety and customized projects
This process has the core advantages of low mold cost, fast delivery time, and good appearance effect.

Introduction

Low-volume plastic casting is a processing method that uses silicone molds to quickly replicate a small number of physical parts from 3D designs or prototypes.

Applications: Used for early verification of product structure, assembly relationships, and appearance; supports comparison of multiple versions of designs and design iterations; reduces upfront mold investment and inventory risks.

Processing Capabilities

  • Rapidly convert 3D designs or prototypes into physical parts, with dimensional tolerances typically within ±0.2–0.3 mm, meeting assembly and appearance verification requirements.
  • Supports PU resin and similar plastic materials such as ABS, PC, and PP, and can also use rubber-like elastic materials.
  • High-precision master molds and mature casting processes can reproduce the appearance details of injection molded parts, suitable for sample display and customer confirmation.
  • Supports the production of 15–30 parts from a single silicone mold, allowing simultaneous verification of multiple design versions.
  • Can perform insert casting (nuts, metal parts), wall thickness optimization, and structural reinforcement to achieve functional and structural verification.
  • Offers customized colors and surface effects, including multi-color casting, spraying, screen printing, UV coating, and glossy, matte, and textured surface treatments.
  • Provides engineering advice, including material selection, process solutions, and DFM analysis, providing reference for subsequent mass production.

MOQ, Delivery Time, and Mass Production Capacity

Minimum Order Quantity (MOQ): A single silicone mold typically produces 15–30 pieces, suitable for small batch needs of 10–200 pieces.

Production Cycle: Master mold making 2–5 days, silicone mold making 2–3 days, casting and curing 3–7 days, overall project cycle typically 7–15 days.

FAQ

Q: Is the performance of castings equivalent to that of injection molded parts?

A: Similar in appearance and structure, but generally lower in heat resistance and long-term mechanical performance than injection molded parts, more suitable for verification and trial production stages.

Q: Is it easy to make design changes?

A: Very flexible, the cost and cycle of remaking silicone molds are relatively low, suitable for multiple iterations.

Q: Can it be used as a validation plan before mass production?

A: Okay. Low Volume Plastic Casting is an ideal choice for appearance, structure, and assembly validation before mass production.
